Dustin Johnsrud, Epping, was recently recognized for 12 years of service to the NDWC. After serving one term as the Williams county rep, Johnsrud was elected to the NDWC board as the District 2 representative, and served the maximum three terms.

He was the Commission representative to the U.S. Durum Growers Association, National Pasta Association and the U.S. Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative. He also participated in U.S. Wheat crop quality seminars and board team travels, hosted many individuals at his farm and was instrumental in assisting with the Durum Industry Advisory Council meetings and NDWC annual research review. The research arena was an area Dustin committed a lot of time to. “Annually, the Commission funds $1.2 to $1.4 million to research. Our research review process can be lengthy and challenging. Dustin enjoyed communicating with researchers and learning more about their areas of expertise. Through this effort, he was able to help make the funding priority discussions more streamlined and efficient,” noted Erica Olson, Director of Marketing and Research. Dustin also became well known within the durum and pasta industry circles, hosting many visitors at his farm and regularly providing updates and relaying producer concerns and realities, something that continues after his board retirement.

“12 years is a huge chunk of time to give to a board,” says Mark Birdsall, NDWC Chairman. “When Dustin started on the board he had a very young family, but he found the work of the Commission important enough to dedicate the time to and he made a big difference.” Thank you Dustin!
