Request For Proposals
The North Dakota Wheat Commission board is committed to funding wheat related research to help ensure producers remain competitive in the marketplace and make certain domestic and international end-users continue to receive the quality wheat needed for premium products made from North Dakota wheat. Research efforts also address timely production issues for producers and end-use research inspired by customer questions or challenges. Commission investment supplements state and federal funds for research.
The primary general research areas the Commission has focused on include:
-
Wheat breeding and genetics
-
End-use quality analysis and related research
-
Disease and pest management and other agronomic research
-
Soil health and fertility
-
Agricultural economics and transportation
Research in each category focuses on hard red spring wheat, durum and hard red winter wheat classes. In addition to basic and applied research, the Commission has invested in capital improvement projects that provide infrastructure and lab facilities that facilitate cutting edge research.
The Commission considers proposals for wheat research prior to each budgeting period. Generally, the research proposal form for new research is available in early January, with a submittal deadline in mid-February.
The annual research review meeting is held in early March in Fargo. Exact timelines vary from year to year and timeline information and proposal forms will be available in December.
