Weekly Wheat Update

September 23, 2025

Harvest of the U.S. spring wheat crop is considered mostly complete with states reporting harvest completion levels of 94-100%.  In general, yields this year were above average, but not at record levels.  Isolated storm damage, dry conditions and disease pressure did cause some issues with a small portion of the crop.  However, overall quality is showing well, with the most recent quality analysis from the samples at the NDSU wheat quality lab shown below.

  • 76% of samples collected and analyzed

  • Protein – 14.3%

  • Moisture – 12.4%

  • TKW – 34.3 grams

  • Falling number – 413 seconds

  • Test weight – 61.6 pounds per bushel

  • Damage – 0.5%

  • DHV – 59%

  • Grade - #1 Northern Spring

While this will be the last weekly update report, continued harvest reports and quality data can be found at https://uswheat.org/crop-and-quality/harvest-reports/.  Notification will be sent when the final crop quality reports are available.

Precipitation has caused delays in getting the last portion of the durum crop harvested.  In North Dakota, approximately 86% has been harvested.  Producers continue to report mostly good yields, but variable quality depending on timing of harvest.  Some samples are showing extremely high quality, while others show effects of late season rains and harvest delays.  Quality information available so far is below, please note this only represents 62% of expected samples.  Please reference the link above for continued durum quality data updates.
