Learn more about market factors impacting the outlook for the 2009 wheat crop

Each crop year brings new challenges and opportunities for the wheat industry in terms of market prices, quality and product performance. Producers need valuable information on demand trends and supply competition to help guide them in their marketing decisions. Industry representatives and other end-users want the latest on the overall quality and availability of the 2009 crop. To get the latest information and insight on these issues, wheat producers and others involved in the wheat industry are encouraged to attend the Crop Outlook and International Durum Forum, Tuesday, November 10 at the Holiday Inn, Minot. The program, which is a cooperative effort of the North Dakota Wheat Commission and U.S. Durum Growers Association, starts at 8 a.m. and closes with an optional banquet that evening.

This year's Outlook features two well known, national speakers and analysts, Dan Manternach, Editor, Doane's Agricultural Report, and Candace Roper, Senior Vice-President, CoBank. Mr. Manternach will discuss the world and U.S. wheat situation and price outlook, and Ms. Roper will present information on the world financial situation and its impact on grain trade. Others on the program include North Dakota Wheat Commission market analysts who will provide information on the end-use quality of the 2009 regional crops. Researchers from North Dakota State University will discuss trends in wheat products and research and representatives from country elevators will discuss challenges and opportunities of the 2009 crop and trends they expect to see in marketing and transportation.

The afternoon portion of the meeting, sponsored and conducted by the U.S. Durum Growers Association, will feature speakers who will discuss durum breeding in North Dakota, fungicide and other research studies, weather outlook and 2010 projections and provide an update on the Average Crop Revenue Election Program (ACRE). North Dakota Agriculture Commission Doug Goehring will also be on the afternoon program. The U.S. Durum Growers annual meeting will round out the afternoon agenda. The event finishes with an optional banquet that is free to U.S. Durum Growers Association members; non-members are required to pay $20 to attend.

The event is free of charge, with the exception of the optional banquet, but advanced registration is required. To register, contact the North Dakota Wheat Commission by November 3 to reserve your spot by calling 701-328-5111 or email ndwheat@ndwheat.com. To view an agenda, click here.
