Wheat Chili With Beef

1 cup wheat berries
3 cups water
1 pound lean ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon chili powder (or to taste)
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
8-ounce can tomato sauce
8-ounce can whole tomatoes
4 cups beef broth
15-ounce can kidney beans

Cook wheat in water for 1 hour until tender; add more water if necessary. Drain and rinse with cool water.

Brown beef, onion and pepper. Drain off fat thoroughly. Stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer, uncovered 1 hour or until desired consistency is reach; stir occasionally.
