Sausage & Asparagus Pasta

8 ounces penne or similar shaped pasta
2 tablespoons oil, divided
12 ounces precooked smoked beef sausage, cut into -inch slices
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic minced
2 cups asparagus spears cut into 1 -inch pieces
1 yellow bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
cup chicken broth
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil (1 teaspoon dried basil)
teaspoon salt
teaspoon pepper
4 plum tomatoes, coarsely chopped
Shredded Parmesan cheese

Cook pasta according to package directions; drain. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in large skillet;
add sausage and cook over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, turning occasionally. Add onion
and garlic; cook until lightly browned. Add asparagus, bell pepper, broth, basil, salt and
pepper; mix well. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until asparagus is
crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon oil and tomatoes; cook about 5 minutes
or until bubbly. Add pasta; toss to mix. Place in serving bowl. Sprinkle with
cheese. Serves 5.
